Our Design Consulting Process
A structured approach to transforming your compact apartment into a functional, beautiful space
Initial Contact and Scheduling
The process begins when you reach out through our contact form or phone. We schedule an initial conversation to understand your basic situation—apartment size, primary challenges, budget range, and timeline expectations.
This preliminary discussion helps us determine if our services align with your needs and allows you to ask questions about our approach, fees, and what to expect. We're transparent about what we can and cannot accomplish within different budget parameters.
For Santiago-area clients, we schedule an in-home assessment visit. For clients in other regions, we arrange a video consultation and provide detailed guidance on documenting your space through photographs and measurements.
Comprehensive Space Assessment
During the in-home visit, we conduct a thorough evaluation of your apartment. This includes precise measurements of all rooms, documentation of existing furniture and fixtures, assessment of natural lighting patterns throughout the day, and evaluation of storage capacity and usage.
We photograph your space from multiple angles to capture current conditions. These images serve as reference points during design development and help you visualize the transformation when comparing before and after states.
Equally important is understanding how you use your space. We discuss your daily routines, work-from-home needs, storage pain points, entertaining patterns, and aesthetic preferences. This lifestyle analysis ensures our recommendations serve your actual needs rather than imposing generic solutions.
Analysis and Solution Development
Following the assessment, we analyze the collected information to identify opportunities for improvement. This analytical phase examines spatial flow, furniture placement efficiency, storage utilization, lighting adequacy, and visual coherence.
We develop multiple solution options for key challenges, each with different budget implications. For example, storage needs might be addressed through simple reorganization, affordable modular units, or custom built-in solutions depending on your budget flexibility.
Our recommendations prioritize interventions by impact-to-cost ratio. High-impact, low-cost changes come first, allowing you to see significant improvement even with limited initial investment. More substantial changes are presented as optional enhancements you can implement when ready.
Design Presentation Meeting
We schedule a presentation meeting to review our recommendations in detail. You receive a comprehensive design package that includes annotated floor plans showing proposed furniture arrangements, specific product recommendations with supplier information and pricing, color palette suggestions with paint codes and material samples, lighting plan with fixture specifications, and storage solutions with installation guidance.
During this meeting, we explain the reasoning behind each recommendation. Understanding why certain solutions work helps you make informed decisions and apply similar thinking to future choices.
We welcome questions and discussion. If certain recommendations don't align with your preferences or budget, we explore alternatives. The goal is developing a plan you feel confident implementing, not imposing our vision regardless of fit.
Implementation Planning
Once you've reviewed and approved the design direction, we create a detailed implementation plan. This roadmap breaks the project into phases, allowing you to proceed gradually if budget or time constraints require it.
Each phase includes a checklist of tasks, timeline estimates, and budget allocation. We identify which items you can handle yourself and which might benefit from professional help—whether that's a handyman for shelf installation or a painter for wall treatments.
We provide specific supplier contacts and product codes for all recommended items. This eliminates the guesswork of shopping and ensures you purchase exactly what was specified in the design plan.
Ongoing Implementation Support
As you implement changes, we remain available for guidance. Questions inevitably arise during execution—a recommended product is out of stock, dimensions don't quite match expectations, or you're uncertain about a specific installation detail.
We provide support through email, phone calls, or brief site visits as needed. This ongoing accessibility ensures you don't get stuck mid-project and helps you navigate unexpected challenges without compromising the overall design vision.
For clients implementing changes over several months, we offer periodic check-ins to assess progress, answer questions, and make adjustments based on how the space is evolving in practice.
Final Review and Adjustment
Once implementation is substantially complete, we conduct a final review visit. This allows us to see the realized design, assess how well the solutions are working in practice, and identify any necessary adjustments.
Sometimes minor tweaks significantly improve functionality—shifting a piece of furniture slightly, adjusting lighting angles, or adding a small organizational element we didn't initially anticipate. These fine-tuning adjustments ensure you're completely satisfied with the outcome.
We also provide guidance on maintaining your optimized space over time. This includes tips for preventing clutter accumulation, seasonal adjustments to maximize natural lighting, and how to evaluate potential future furniture purchases for compatibility with your layout.
Timeline Expectations
The consulting process itself typically takes two to three weeks from initial assessment to design presentation. Implementation timeline varies based on project scope and your availability, ranging from a few days for simple rearrangements to several weeks for projects involving multiple new purchases and installations.
We work within your schedule constraints. If you need to implement changes gradually over several months due to budget considerations, we structure the plan accordingly. The design remains valid whether you execute it quickly or in phases.
Investment Structure
Our fees are structured as flat consulting rates based on apartment size and project complexity. You pay for our expertise and design work, not for furniture sales or construction markups. This alignment ensures our recommendations serve your interests rather than our profit margins.
We provide detailed cost estimates for all recommended purchases and installations during the design presentation. This transparency allows you to make informed decisions about which elements to implement immediately and which to defer.
Implementation costs vary widely based on your choices. A project might involve only furniture rearrangement and minor purchases totaling a few hundred dollars, or it might include substantial storage installations and lighting upgrades costing several thousand. You control this investment based on your budget and priorities.
